The East Lancashire School of Ki style Aikido.
Based in the Ribble Valley.
East Lancashire Aikido are a small friendly community club who's interest is Aikido, a martial art.
Our style is "Ki" style developed by Koichi Tohei who was also influenced by Japanese Yoga.
At Club we practice traditional Aiki, Ki exercises and Ki Style Aikido techniques. We aim to make each session a fun learning experience while retaining a sense of tradition & etiquette which gives the art it's context.
Our aim is to learn an ever expanding vocabulary of Ki exercises & Aikido techniques for use in grading & self defence. Continually we are trying to refine our technique so that it becomes relaxed. Not dead relaxed but dynamic. A modern interpretation could be pure movement. A dance expalnation could be fluid movement. A sports science expalnation would be functional efficiency.
Ki Aikido practice develops centredness, or "coordination, flexibility, posture, agility & ballance" Study also helps to increase energy levels and self confidence".
Our Students find Ki style Aikido invigorating & relaxing & they take their "centredness" into their personal lives.
Aikido is also an effective means of self defence. With Aikido comes the intention not to harm the attacker which, has to be interpreted in a self defence setting but should always be in line with the law of self defence and should never be used retributively.
"Self Defence for a civilised society".
Aikido does not rely on strength, agression or size to brutalise an agressor. It uses techniques developed for the Samurai battlefield and refined by the Aikido Masters "O" Sensei and Koichi Tohei. Women and men of all ages can master the techniques that can baffle the most experienced brawler while enjoying the fundamental movements that improve posture, self confidence & vitality.
Our Lancashire based Ki Aikido Club is part of the KSMBDA Association, who's founder and principle Instructor is Wasyl Kolesnikov.
Sensei Kolesnikov 6th Dan, the KSMBDA Organisation’s founder and Senior Instructor has been studying and instructing Aikido for more than 33 years.
Beginners aged 16 and above, male & female always welcome.
Ladies . . .
It's always the lads who try martial arts & usually do o.k. but the fact is that women are very suited to all styles of Aikido. "O" Sensei said that women are the essence of Aikido. Women are generally less physical and more cooperative than men, therefore they are more naturally adept at learning the "art" bit of this martial art. Why not try us out in 2009?
